The Old Bar Beach Rugby Club was one of the foundation clubs of the Lower Mid North Coast competition in 1981 with Port Macquarie, Taree, Gloucester and Kempsey fielding teams. From 1981 until now, the Clams have won the first grade premiership on six occasions in the years 1982, 1986, 1987, 1992, 2009 and 2011.
The idea of forming an Old Bar Beach Women's rugby team was initially discussed earlier in 2017, but in July the club began in earnest to form a team and placed a post on the club media pages and a team came together. They began training in August 2017 and played in the inaugural Lower Mid North Coast Rugby women's 7's gala day at Taree rugby park in September and played above all expectations, against Taree, Nabiac, Gloucester, Wauchope along with some other girls from Port Macquarie area who helped by being subs. From the Gala day Dani Lewis was asked to trial for the Tomahawks opens side and Destiny Rogers-Wihongi for the u 17's. Destiny was selected in the rep side which played in the state championships in Sydney October 14, 2017. The side committed to the Crescent Heads 7's tournament and the other gala days which were held at Nabiac in December and then at our home ground the Richard Crook Rugby Field in March 2018 a final preparation before the beginning of the season with the first games to be played in April.
The women had a great start by defeating Forster Tuncurry 38-5 which apart from being their first ever win it was also another milestone for the girls as being the first Old Bar rugby team to win on the Richard Crook rugby field and to sing the rarely heard CLAMS war cry. Not long after the men bounced back and caught Wallamba (undefeated until playing the Clams in round 6) off gaurd with a memoble win in adverse conditions to register the first win for the men in several seasons.
